天主教慈幼會伍少梅中學 50周年校慶暨「希耆」樂齡科技應用學習中心開幕典禮
教育局局長蔡若蓮博士主禮  見證學校實踐未來校園、社區校園及幸福校園的目標

天主教慈幼會伍少梅中學獲優質教育基金撥款158萬港元,興建「希耆」樂齡科技應用學習中心,鼓勵學生了解及關心長者需要,並透過STEAM知識和技能,改善長者生活質素,為他們解決日常生活問題。適逢50周年校慶的重要時刻,為隆重其事,校方於2022年12月22日為「希耆」樂齡科技應用學習中心舉行開幕典禮,邀請香港特別行政區政府教育局局長蔡若蓮博士擔任主禮嘉賓,並獲一眾教育界好友親臨支持,包括香港資優教育學苑院長黃金耀博士、社聯社會企業商務中心首席顧問及香港浸會大學實務教授凌浩雲先生、家庭與學校合作事宜委員會主席方奕展先生、多位中小學校長,以及三位天主教慈幼會伍少梅中學「星級導師」:陳校長免費補習天地創辦人陳葒校長、北河同行創辦人「深水埗明哥」陳灼明先生及盛記麵家B哥張文強先生等,一同見證天主教慈幼會伍少梅中學進一步實踐「未來校園」、「社區校園」及「幸福校園」的目標。

開幕典禮取址新建成的「希耆」樂齡科技應用學習中心舉行,大會首先進行隆重的升旗儀式,再由校牧陸順賢神父領禱及主持祝聖禮,象徵「希耆」樂齡科技應用學習中心正式投入服務。其後,李建文校長向嘉賓致歡迎辭,並邀請主禮嘉賓教育局局長蔡若蓮博士到台上致辭。在贊助「IoT」智能家居裝置的萬眾智能生活有限公司主席梁啟雄先生分享過各項先進設備如何協助長者改善日常生活後,蔡若蓮博士應邀與學生代表及兩位長者進行對話,各人分別從政府、年青人及長者的角度就樂齡科技教育表達看法與願景。最後,開幕典禮以合唱悠揚的校歌作結,校長邀請嘉賓們到「長者生活模擬體驗區」參觀各項先進設備,並到訪校內各處參觀「未來校園」的特色設施。

樂齡科技應用學習中心取名「希耆」,代表學生為長者帶來改善生活的方案的同時,長者亦與年輕一代分享人生智慧,彼此帶來希望。校方更特別邀請到屢獲殊榮的著名藝術家又一山人為「希耆」設計獨具心思的特色標誌,為這個以創新、實用和美感為基礎的領先教學概念錦上添花。特色的教學空間引入實境式學習體驗,設有「長者生活模擬體驗區」,模擬一個設備齊全的家居環境,包括客廳、飯廳、廚房與洗手間,並獲萬眾智能生活有限公司贊助提供「IoT」智能裝置,提供實境讓學生及長者進行交流,了解長者的日常需要,繼而與長者一起設計產品方案,解決問題。「希耆」樂齡科技應用學習中心除了供天主教慈幼會伍少梅中學學生使用之外,亦會開放予社區舉行體驗日及工作坊,鞏固學校與社區的關係,以及回饋社會。

香港特別行政區政府教育局局長蔡若蓮博士表示:「面對廿一世紀科技高速發展,年青一代必須好好裝備自己,迎接創科發展帶來的機遇和挑戰。很高興見到伍少梅中學在推動STEAM教育不遺餘力。學校建立科技應用中心、生態實驗室等,利用人工智能科技,提升學校科技及環境教育的教學效能。今天開幕的『希耆』樂齡科技應用中心便是其中一項展示的成果。學校創設長者生活模擬體驗區讓同學與長者一起親身設計產品,並應用STEAM相關的知識和技能,改善長者的生活質素。學校將照顧長者需要這份心意,配合匠心獨到的意念,引入學校硬件建設以至學生的價值教育當中,推己及人的愛心,令人感動。」

李建文校長表示:「隨着香港老年人口增長,改善長者的生活質素成為社會上一個重要議題,天主教慈幼會伍少梅中學位處的葵青區亦有很多基層長者居住,我們一直把服務長者納入為學生學習的重要元素,不論在課業、活動及義工服務各層面,皆以關心長者需要及改善長者生活為目標。成立『希耆』樂齡科技應用學習中心,除了鞏固本校的STEAM發展藍圖之外,更提供了一個友善舒適的學習空間,讓學生與長者進行深入交流,在實境學習場景中汲取樂齡科技知識,鼓勵他們善用STEAM相關知識和技能,設計出提升長者生活質素的方案,學以致用,並培養關懷社區的熱心。今天的開幕典禮十分榮幸獲教育局局長蔡若蓮博士親臨指導,並得到一眾教育界同業鼎力支持。今年適逢本校50周年校慶,『希耆』樂齡科技應用學習中心的啟用別具意義,標誌着本校進一步實踐『未來校園』、『社區校園』和『幸福校園』的目標。」

Dr. Choi Yuk Lin, JP, Secretary for Education of HKSAR, officiates the opening of the Gerontech Park cum the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Salesians of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School, marking the school’s new milestone in achieving the vision of becoming a Future School, a Community School and a Well-being School

Created with a $1.58 million funding from the Quality Education Fund, the Salesians of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School is proud to announce the launch of the Gerontech Park, a STEAM lab that inspires and facilitates students to utilize their STEAM knowledge and skills to offer solutions to the needs of the elderly and hence improve their quality of life. An opening ceremony was held on 22nd December 2022, with Dr. Choi Yuk Lin, JP, Secretary for Education of HKSAR as the officiating guest, and witnessed by a full house of movers and shakers of the education sector including Dr. Jimmy Wong, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education, Mr. Howard Ling, Chief Consultant of the Social Enterprise Business Centre of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and Professor of Practice of Hong Kong Baptist University, Mr. Eugene Fong, Chairman of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, principals of secondary schools and primary schools, as well as the Star Mentors of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School: Principal Chan Hung, Founder of Principal Chan Free Tutorial World, Mr. Chan Cheuk Ming, Founder of Pei Ho Counterparts, and Mr. Cheung Man Keung, renowned philanthropist and founder of Shing Kee Noodles. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the school, the launch of the Gerontech Park sets a new milestone in achieving the school’s vision to become a Future School, a Community School and a Well-being School.

Held inside the brand new Gerontech Park, the opening ceremony was commenced with a flag raising ceremony, followed by the praying and consecration session by Fr. Anthony Lek, the school’s chaplain. After the welcoming remarks by Principal Li Kin Man, Dr. Choi Yuk Lin was invited on stage to deliver a speech. Mr. Michael Leung, Chairman of Peoples Smart Living Limited and sponsor of the smart home IoT devices, was then invited to explain how technology could improve the quality of life of the elderly. After that, Dr. Choi Yuk Lin was invited to join a panel discussion with a student representative and two senior citizens. The four panelists shared their insights and visions on gerontech education from the perspectives of the government, the young and the elderly. The ceremony was concluded with the school hymn. Principal Li Kin Man then invited the guests to explore the state-of-the-art Gerontech Park and other on campus Future School facilities.

The Chinese name of the Gerontech Park represents a mutual blessing between the young and the elderly, while the young offer solutions to improve the quality of life of the elderly, and the elderly share their wisdom with the young. The Chinese logo was specially designed by the award-winning artist Anothermountainman, gracing the pioneering lab with meaningful and warm thoughts. Incorporating an authentic learning environment, the Gerontech Park  features a living environment simulation area including a living room, a dining room, a kitchen and a washroom, fully-equipped with smart home IoT devices sponsored by Peoples Smart Living Limited. The special learning space allows students to interact with the elderly to understand their daily needs, and work together with the elderly to create smart solutions to improve their quality of life. Apart from providing unique learning experience to its students, the school will offer the Gerontech Park to the community as a venue for learning days and workshops to reinforce the relationship between school education and the community.

I am delighted to witness the proactive STEAM development in Salesians of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School. On top of its ECO Lab and other facilities, the school has further enhanced its technological and environmental education by launching the Gerontech Park, a specially designed teaching space featuring a living environment simulation area that allows students to utilize their STEAM knowledge and work together with the elderly to create smart solutions to improve their quality of life. I am particularly touched to see that the school has not only upgraded its teaching hardware but has successfully incorporated the cutting-edge education concept with the vision of serving the elderly, nurturing its students in a holistic approach.”

Principal Li Kin Man remarks, “With the growth of the elderly population in Hong Kong, improving the quality of life of our senior citizens has become an important issue. Kwai Tsing District, where Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School is situated, is the home of many grassroots elderly. Our school has always included serving the elderly as an indispensable element in our curriculum, be it academic learning, extracurricular activities or volunteer services. In addition to enhancing our STEAM programme, the Gerontech Park provides a friendly and comfortable learning environment for students to conduct in-depth interactions with the elderly, offers an authentic learning environment to inspire and facilitate students to utilize their STEAM knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life of the elderly, and cultivate students’ social responsibility and enthusiasm in contributing to society. It is a great honour to have Dr. Choi Yuk Lin, JP, Secretary for Education of HKSAR, as our officiating guest, and a full house of fellow educators offering their support by gracing our opening event. The establishment of the Gerontech Park is particularly meaningful as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the school and marks a special milestone in achieving the school’s vision to become a Future School, a Community School and a Well-being School.”
