For Immediate Release                                                          17th February 2012

Ocean Park welcomes newborn marmoset and invites you to the
Plan International Walk for Children on March 4

The enrolment of the Plan International Walk for Children has entered the final stage, and Plan International Hong Kong is thrilled by the support received from the community and would like to invite all of you to join this joyful event to deliver love to disadvantaged children. 2012 marks the 75th anniversary of Plan International and the 35th anniversary of Ocean Park, thus making the Plan International Walk for Children an especially meaningful day for both organisations.

At the giant party marking Ocean Park’s 35th birthday, Mr Allan Zeman, Chairman of Ocean Park, welcomed a new member to its family of animal ambassadors – a marmoset cub born in December 2011. Not only was the birth a great present for the Park’s anniversary, but it was also a testament to the professional care given by the Park’s animal team, as the marmoset parents were able to reproduce naturally while they were only a mere few months into their residence in the Rainforest attraction since mid-2011.As Hong Kong’s People’s Park, Ocean Park is deeply loved by children and has created happy memories for a countless number of people. In recent years, Ocean Park has brought surprise after surprise to its guests with new facilities and attraction areas. Ocean Park continues to strive towards providing elements of entertainment, education and conservation to its guests, and its effort has been recognised by close to 7 million guests in the calendar year of 2011.

In order to give back to the community, Ocean Park has been cooperating with different organisations in recent years in holding meaningful events in the park. On 4 March 2012, Ocean Park will join hands with Plan International Hong Kong to present the Plan International Walk for Children to raise funds for three significant projects to improve the quality of life of deprived children in China, Cambodia and Kenya. The route begins at the new entry plaza of Ocean Park – the Ocean Square, passes by various attractions of the Park, such as the Grand Aquarium, Aqua City Lagoon, Giant Panda Adventure, Ocean Express, Ocean Park Tower, The Dragon and the Amazing Bird Theatre, and ends with Whiskers Theatre as the destination.

Mr Allan Zeman, Chairman of Ocean Park, said, “We believe that our passion in conservation and education in Hong Kong is one of the reasons for Ocean Park’s success. Ocean Park has been bringing visitors countless laughter and memories. From another point of view, it is visitors’ support that makes Ocean Park a vibrant and dynamic place. We hope that the Plan International Walk for Children held by Plan International Hong Kong and Ocean Park can bring changes to deprived children’s lives and a smile to their faces as well.”

Mr James Murray, Chief Executive Officer of Plan International Hong Kong, said, “When we talk about theme parks in Hong Kong, we naturally think of Ocean Park. It is such a happy thing for children to visit Ocean Park, and the Plan International Walk for Children is an opportunity for everyone to enjoy a day out with a meaningful purpose to help children in needs. On behalf of Plan International Hong Kong, I would like to express my deepest thanks to Ocean Park for supporting the event. We are excited to hear that the event has been gaining support from the public and I am so looking forward to see all of you on March 4!”
