For Immediate Release 18 May 2015 EDiversity “We Need a Break” Facebook Video Campaign Photos: http://www.seedland.hk/press/ediversity/3/ Today, many students are burdened with massive amount of assignments and various learning requirements. Holidays have been seriously encroached into as a result. What should true holidays be like and why do we need that? On June 27 and 28, educators and parents will assemble at EDiversity’s second education conference: “We Need a Break” to examine the issue. Meanwhile a Facebook Video Campaign under the same title is being launched, inviting the public to share their opinions in 30 seconds on what “taking a break” means to them and what they would like to do in a genuine holiday. The campaign aims to collect public opinions in hopes of redefining the meaning and the significance of taking a real break and its impacts. Last year, education and child experts from all over the world were invited to speak at EDiversity’s maiden education conference featuring the theme “We Need Choices”, during which various overseas and local alternate education models and theories were showcased to call upon parents and teachers’ reflection on the true purpose of education, and make educational choice based on individual needs of children. This year, with the theme “We Need a Break: Drill less, Learn more”, the conference aims to encourage parents and schools to reduce cramming practices and make time for creative education. The conference will investigate the actual effectiveness of assignments and assessments, and explore how children can learn more and better on an assignment-free holiday. Parents, teachers and principals who have adopted extraordinary approaches within mainstream institutions, and practitioners of creative education will be invited to share their experience and insights. Cam Cheung, founder of EDiversity remarks, “EDiversity is devoted to showcasing different learning models to parents and the public. Through knowing what’s possible, we hope to encourage rethinking in education. Too much homework, drillings and assessments is counter-productive. We need to give time back to children and families. If they are healthy, so will our society. Please join ‘We Need a Break’ Facebook Video Campaign, help offer choices and make a difference.”
*Participants must accept and agree with the terms of conditions of the campaign (http://goo.gl/58Ae9l). Celebrities including former news anchor Lavender Cheung, renowned artistes Nancy Sit, Wong Cho Lam, Corinna Chamberlain, scriptwriter Lam Chiu Wing and singer-songwriter Peco Chui, and Green Power founder Dr. Simon Chau, have already joined and shared their ideas about what makes a real holiday.
