For immediate release October 12, 2026 “Grandparents’ Day” 2026 Funfair by Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation welcomes over 1,000 three-generation families, championing “Holistic Well-being” and strengthening intergenerational bonds Miss Alice Mak, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, officiates the kick-off ceremony Online Version: https://public.seedland.hk/press/LKKFF/2610-Post-event/
Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation has been advocating for the designation of the second Sunday of October each year as “Grandparents’ Day”, with the aim of fostering the culture of “Appreciation Starts at Home” and encouraging families and the wider community to express love and gratitude towards grandparents. Building on this vision, the Foundation presented the “Grandparents’ Day” 2026 under the theme of “Holistic Well-being”, encouraging families to transform care for grandparents’ physical and mental well-being into meaningful opportunities for quality time and intergenerational connection. Celebrating “Grandparents’ Day” this year, the flagship event, “Grandparents’ Day” 2026 Funfair, was successfully held on October 11 at D.PARK, welcoming over 1,000 three-generation families. The event was honored by the presence of Miss Alice Mak, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Mr. Jason Lee, Chairperson of Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, and Mr. David Lee, Board Member of the Lee Kum Kee Group, who officiated the kick-off ceremony. Featuring a vibrant program of interactive game booths, family workshops and grandparents-grandchildren performances incorporating elements of sport, art and intergenerational harmony, the event invited participants to explore meaningful ways to express love and appreciation through the “5 Love Languages”. Through shared experiences and joyful moments, families strengthened their bonds while creating precious memories together. The event also featured the prize presentation ceremony and winners’ exhibition of the “GenLove Precious Moments” Drawing Competition 2026, alongside an exhibition of artworks created in the “GenLove Portrait Workshops”, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the heartfelt interactions between grandparents and grandchildren. Miss Alice Mak, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, remarked, “I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation for once again organizing the ‘Grandparents’ Day’ initiative. Highlighting ‘Appreciation Starts at Home’, this meaningful event encourages younger generation to express gratitude to the elderly, effectively translating the HKSAR Government’s vision of advocating core family values into concrete action. Recognizing family as the cornerstone of society, the initiative also aligns closely with the family-related principles stated in Hong Kong’s First Five-Year Plan announced by the Chief Executive of HKSAR, including fostering family harmony, enhancing family building, advancing family education and virtues, and promoting traditional family values. This year, the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Family Council will once again jointly organize the ‘Hong Kong Excellent Family Awards’ to further promote positive family values within the community, while enhancing collaboration with various stakeholders by continuing the ‘Funding Scheme on the Promotion of Family Education’ to subsidize non-profit-making community projects in promoting family education. Looking ahead, we will unite efforts across all sectors to foster a robust social atmosphere that nurtures family building and healthy development.” Mr. Jason Lee, Chairperson of Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, remarked, “Building on the foundation laid last year, we are taking this year’s ‘Grandparents’ Day’ a step further through the theme of ‘Holistic Well-being’ – turning awareness into simple daily habits that keep families close and healthy. As we champion ‘Grandparents’ Day’ as a tradition to be celebrated across every family, community, and generation, I warmly invite our corporate peers, community leaders, partner organizations and members of the public to join us in building a culture of heartfelt respect, recognizing that family love has always been present, and manifesting the spirit of ‘Appreciation Starts at Home’.”
At the kick-off ceremony, Miss Alice Mak, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Mr. Jason Lee, Chairperson of Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, and Mr. David Lee, Board Member of the Lee Kum Kee Group, jointly inserted a giant ticket to the ticket gate, symbolizing the official launch of the “5 Love Languages Express”. Visitors were invited to journey through five themed zones inspired by the “5 Love Languages”, where they could enjoy interactive game booths, family workshops and a diverse line-up of grandparent-grandchild performances, while discovering and experiencing meaningful ways to share love with their family members.
Representatives of Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, the co-organizer of “Grandparents’ Day” 2026 Funfair, and NGOs that supported the “Grandparents’ Day” were invited on stage for group photos, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering a more caring and inclusive community for grandparents.
The award presentation ceremony of the “GenLove Precious Moments” Drawing Competition 2026 was also held at the event. Judges including Ms Chaturada Dhanasobhon, Board of Director of Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, Dr. Lam Wing Wo, and Ms Lucilla Leung presented awards to the Champion, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up in both Primary School and Secondary School categories. Guided by the “Think, Talk, Create” framework, the competition sought to foster meaningful intergenerational communication and celebrate family love through creativity. Primary School participants were required to submit hand-drawn artworks, while Secondary School participants entered with AI-generated pieces, showcasing warm interactions shared across generations.
On the event day, rising star Dave Li and renowned beatboxer HEARTGREY joined two grandparents-grandchildren teams for a lively “Tap to Love” Body Tapping performance, inviting guests to participate in the exercise together. Previously, Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation has joined hands with renowned martial arts master Leung Yim Ha to introduce the “Tap to Love” Body Tapping workout.
