For immediate release 29 September 2025 David Lee, Shirley Loo, Kaho Chan and Christy Yiu share about their heartfelt stories on intergenerational interactions and parenting insights, inviting the public to take part in the Grandparents’ Day 2025 Funfair by Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation Online Version: https://public.seedland.hk/press/LKKFF/2509-Video2/ To manifest its commitment of building harmonious and healthy relationships in families and society that stays true to the motto of “Appreciation Starts at Home”, Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation advocates marking the second Sunday of October every year as “Grandparents’ Day”, promoting communication between grandparents and their family members through Five Love Languages that enhance respect and appreciation. After presenting heartfelt sharing by renowned actress Jennifer Yu and renowned actor Kaki Sham, Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation has invited David Lee, a fourth-generation member of Lee Kum Kee family, Shirley Loo, General Secretary of The Family Development Foundation, alongside Kaho Chan and Christy Yiu, “Hong Kong’s Running Couple”, to share about their heartfelt stories on intergenerational interactions and insights on parenting, and call upon the public to take part in the Grandparents’ Day 2025 Funfair on 12 October. David Lee: Strengthen intergenerational bonds and legacy with Five Love Languages
Lee Kum Kee family, a multi-generational enterprise family with 137 years of history, puts harmonious family and intergenerational relationships at the heart of its core values. In his video sharing, David Lee, a fourth-generation member of the family, reflects that he rarely spent time with his grandparents in the past due to his busy schedule, and now he recognises the importance of creating memorable moments with family after becoming a grandfather. For instance, he would spend quality time with different members of the family, such as taking on the role of an accompanying vocalist when his grandchild dances, singing with his music-loving mother, and playing with chicks with his grandmother together, showcasing the family legacy from the perspectives of a grandfather, a son and a grandson. He describes gifting a handmade tie-dye bag to his grandson and Chinese-style clothing to his granddaughter who lives overseas, explaining how thoughtful gifts can serve as tokens of love. He also suggests that grandparents should respect the grandchildren’s parents when it comes to parenting, as this helps foster mutual trust within the family. Shirley Loo: The intergenerational parenting wisdom of the “Strong Generation”
As a seasoned expert in parenting and family education, Shirley Loo shares heartfelt moments with her daughter and three grandsons, offering insights on fostering harmonious intergenerational relationships. As a grandmother of three grandsons, she enjoys creating precious moments of learning together. By recalling a memorable experience in which her grandson showed persistence while searching for a tree stick in the West Kowloon Cultural District, Shirley Loo describes how she realised that her message of “never give up easily” had already taken root in his heart – an inspiring example of intergenerational parenting. With regard to teaching her grandsons, Shirley Loo encourages grandparents, whom she calls the “Strong Generation” for their wisdom and vitality, to stay open-minded and updated, and always communicate with parents to explore better approaches in intergenerational parenting. She believes that they can embrace their strengths and pass on their experience and wisdom to the next generations. Kaho Chan and Christy Yiu: Grandparents are great teammates on parenting
“Hong Kong’s Running Couple” Kaho Chan and Christy Yiu are parents of two daughters. In the video, they express gratitude to the grandparents for their support in taking care of their elder daughter when she was a newborn, which allowed them to quickly resume their roles as athlete and coach. Offering tips on building better relationships with the older generation, they suggest parents remain open to both traditional and modern approaches in parenting as they complement each other, recognising the valuable insights of the older generation on parenting. Parents and grandparents should listen to each other and seek common ground instead of taking opposite stance. They also emphasise that parents should avoid becoming overly reliant on grandparents for co-parenting and ensure they have ample time to rest. The couple also reveal that their elder daughter enjoys choosing cakes and flowers for her grandparents based on their preferences, and she often hugs or kisses them when saying goodbye. This highlights how children can learn to express love and gratitude through giving gifts and physical touch, strengthening intergenerational relationships within the family.
