Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation has been committed to building harmonious and healthy relationships in families and society. To strengthen bonds between grandparents, parents, and grandchildren and reinforce mutual respect and appreciation across generations within families, Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation presents “Loving Family – Thank You Grandparents 2025” Drawing Competition, cordially inviting primary students in Hong Kong to express appreciation and love for their grandparents by sharing their cherished moments with their grandparents via original artworks. Winners will receive fabulous prizes, and outstanding artworks will be selected for public exhibition at the Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation “Grandparents’ Day” 2025 Funfair on 12 October to promote the culture of expressing appreciation and respect to the elderly.

In August 2024, Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation conducted a survey titled “Appreciating Grandparents: Family Relationships and Love”, which revealed that Hong Kong grandparents rate their satisfaction with grandparent-grandchild relationships at 8.05 out of 10. In Hong Kong, grandparents play a unique role in the family, offering a wealth of life wisdom and experience. A close intergenerational relationship can provide profound emotional support for both grandparents and grandchildren. To strengthen bonds between grandparents, parents, and grandchildren, Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation advocates marking the second Sunday in October every year as “Grandparents’ Day” and joins hands with different charity organisations to host a variety of activities that aim to promote communication between grandparents and their family members through five love languages, manifesting the motto of “Appreciation Starts at Home”. As one of the highlights of “Grandparents’ Day”, “Loving Family – Thank You Grandparents 2025” Drawing Competition offers an excellent chance for children to unleash their creativity and express appreciation to their grandparents, creating a caring atmosphere to strengthen intergenerational relationships within a family.

The competition is open for application from 11 April to 30 June. Participating students can choose from three themes, namely “My grandfather/grandmother”, “A day with my grandfather/grandmother” and “An elder at home as a living golden treasure”, to create their artworks, and submit their drawing alongside a registration form downloaded from Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation “Grandparents’ Day” Website. (Please click here for details).

The judging panel of the competition consists of:

  • Dr. Lam Wing Wo, Family doctor; Clinical Assistant Professor (Honorary), Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor at both the Department of Psychiatry, and the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong;
  • Ms Leung Lai Mei Lucilla, Consultant – Education and Child Development of Seedland Educational Charitable Foundation; and
  • Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation’s Board of Director

Winners will be selected based on the criteria of “Theme”, “Content”, “Composition & Artistic Techniques” and “Creativity & Originality”.

The Champion, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up will receive a Certificate of Achievement and book vouchers worth HK$1,500, HK$1,000 and HK$500 respectively, while Merit Award Winners (30 winners) will each receive a Certificate of Achievement. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation. An award presentation ceremony will be held at the Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation “Grandparents’ Day” 2025 Funfair on 12 October, and their winning entries will be exhibited publicly.
