For immediate release 11 December 2024 “ÉLAN Eartheatre – Regain The Lost Wings” made its debut with sensational school sessions, gathering primary school students to strive for saving the 4-metre divine bird Renowned actress Karena Lam made a surprise appearance to congratulate Artistic Director Olivia Yan for her dream come true Online Version: https://public.seedland.hk/press/LCPHK/2412-School_Session/
“ÉLAN Eartheatre – Regain The Lost Wings” by Lost Child Project Hong Kong will present its groundbreaking mega environmental immersive theatre on 14 and 15 December at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, Ecological Education & Venue Partner of the programme. Manifesting the goal of enhancing children’s mental health, a series of school sessions are held from 11 December onwards, offering over 1,000 students from 14 primary schools the opportunity to take part in the eye-opening immersive theatre experiences in nature. Renowned actress Karena Lam made a surprise appearance to congratulate Artistic Director Olivia Yan for her dream come true. Aiming to bring the concept of “Earth Art x Environmental Friendliness x Immersive Theatre” to life, “ÉLAN Eartheatre – Regain The Lost Wings” is a passion project that has taken Olivia years of planning and hard work. Olivia was deeply moved with tears of joy witnessing how the project has successfully inspired children and adults to reconnect with nature, embrace the gifts from Mother Earth, and hence enhance their mental health.
The school session on the first day was commenced with a group photo of Olivia Yan and students from SKH St. Andrew’s Primary School, followed by a sensational welcome ceremony at the plaza of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden in which the priest and bird tribe members led the participants into the adventurous ancient legend. Guided by Sunya, a child from the bird tribe, the participants strived to help the divine bird recover so that it can fly again to bring colours to the world. Divided into four groups, participants proceeded to four different locations to take part in various interactive experiences. Featuring the themes of theatre, music, craft and rhythm, participants learned their distinctive healing powers from four elders, namely the Power of Listening, Courage, Expression and Submission. Children who took part in the nature and art workshops in the earlier stage offered their help as junior elders, assisting the participants to obtain the healing powers to save the divine bird.
The participants then proceeded to the puppet parade venue – the “Bird Tribe Territory” on the summit of Kwun Yum Shan, over 500 metres above sea level. Participants of “Agile Heroes route” reached the venue by shuttle bus; whereas participants of “Tenacious Heroes route” enjoyed an outdoor hike guided by the voice of the “Spirit of the Earth”, portrayed by Faye Leong, Artistic Director of “ÉLAN Eartheatre – Regain The Lost Wings”. Through exploring the natural surroundings and sharing their feelings, participants were not only able to reconnect with nature but also with the people around them.
Taking the limelight of the eye-opening puppet parade, the 4-metre giant bird puppet was brought to life with the help of a team of five skilful puppeteers, arousing rounds of applause and cheers. Accompanied by mesmerising live music, Sunya guided the participants to join hands with the characters and gather together their healing powers to help the divine bird Simurgh recover. By sending blessings to the world, the journey came to a perfect finale. On the public days on 14 and 15 December, families are welcomed to enjoy an Earth art bazaar alongside the immersive theatre experiences and puppet parade. The additional nature and art workshops and seminars welcome pre-registered and walk-in guests.

About Lost Child Project Hong Kong In 2018, moved by the alarming youth and children suicide rates, Olivia Yan invited internationally renowned physical theatre director and educator David Glass to collaboratively launch the “Lost Child Project in HK” initiative. Drawing inspiration from the Lost Child Project, designed by David Glass in 1996, implemented in over 22 countries and utilised in United Nations leadership training, the initiative uses performing arts as a tool to address the mental health of young people and children, and rebuild their spiritual values and happiness. With support from Tai Kwun, the project was presented in a larger scale in 2020 as “ÉLAN Lost Child Project HK”, bringing together professionals from the arts, social welfare, and education sectors to introduce 15 different art projects held physically and online. As Hong Kong’s first large-scale art event running in both online and offline formats, the innovative project overcame challenges brought by the pandemic, and successfully conveyed the core concept of “We do not solve problems, We play problems”, and was granted the “2021 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards – Award for Arts Promotion”. In 2022, with continuous support from Tai Kwun, the project hosted the second edition with a theme of “'YES AND!...”, offering 16 different art projects in which participants could explore more possibilities with creativity, and breaking free from negative and pessimistic emotions, to rebuild the confidence and hope of every Lost Child and the young generation.
