(We do not solve problems, We play problems),更獲得「2021 香港藝術發展獎——藝術推廣獎」。

“ÉLAN Eartheatre – Regain The Lost Wings” by Lost Child Project Hong Kong will present its groundbreaking mega environmental immersive theatre on 14 and 15 December at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, Ecological Education & Venue Partner of the programme, featuring interactive theatre performances, an eye-opening puppet parade, alongside an earth art bazaar, nature and art workshops, and seminars. As the highlight of the sensational event, the 4-metre giant bird puppet that will take the centre stage in the parade and theatre performances made its first appearance at the rehearsal. Crafted from eco-friendly materials such as branches and leaves, the lively giant bird puppet was created by designer and artistic consultant Chen Ying Ching, an experienced puppeteer from Taiwan, and seasoned puppeteer Yip Wai Bun, who co-founded the Fantasy Puppet Theatre with her in 2005, alongside the production team featuring Miaow Ho@sculptimal, Isa Li, Suki Yee, Yeung Hiu Ying and Cathy Ng. The behind-the-scene photos and video offer a glimpse into how the adventurous theme story about Sunya, a child from of the bird tribe who strives to save the divine bird Simurgh, was told through the captivating performances by actors, while the 4-metre giant bird puppet came to life with the help of a team of five skilful puppeteers who control different body parts with seamless coordination.
Taking the limelight are also the colourful costumes designed by Visual Director Kay Wong. Made from recycled fabrics and eco-friendly materials sourced from nature, the costumes not only enhance the performances but also highlight the philosophy of connecting with nature.

The map of “ÉLAN Eartheatre – Regain The Lost Wings” illustrates the expansive area of the mega environmental immersive theatre, spanning different locations across Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden. From the base to the summit, participants will enjoy various interactive theatrical performances as they explore this adventurous journey.
Oliva Yan and Faye Leong, Artistic Directors of “ÉLAN Eartheatre – Regain The Lost Wings”, and actors share their insights and expectations.

|
Oliva Yan remarks, “I am excited and nervous like a mother anticipating the birth of her child! With preparations spanning over two years, the immersive theatre involving over a hundred of performers and backstage workers will begin shortly, taking participants to explore and interact with the natural surroundings, where they will meet actors dressed in colourful costumes featuring eco-friendly materials, designed by Visual Director Kay Wong. Please join our journey with an open mind, leave the troubles in daily life behind, and embrace the gifts from nature.” |
 |
Faye Leong remarks, “It is more than a dream come true to organise a large puppet parade in Hong Kong; beyond that, it is happening on the summit of Kwun Yum Shan, over 500 meters above sea level! It has taken not only a long time but expertise and hard work from different talents to take the event from concept to reality – it is indeed the result of esteemed teamwork. Families are cordially invited to take part in interactive theatre performances, an eye-opening puppet parade, alongside an earth art bazaar, nature and art workshops, and seminars, to send blessings to themselves and the people around.” |
 |
Bee Tam, who stars as Sunya, remarks, “I am so excited for playing the lead role Sunya! I enjoy exploring nature; sometimes I would even talk to flowers, trees and insects. I cannot wait to see how the scent and sound of the natural environment become parts of the immersive theatre. I hope the interactive performances will serve as a bridge to help the participants rediscover their inner child and reconnect with nature.” |
 |
Bon Tong, the puppeteer who controls the head of the giant bird and stars as a bird tribe member, remarks, “As part of a team of five, it is essential for me and my teammates to coordinate perfectly to control the movements of the giant bird puppet, ensuring that actions such as breathing, wing flapping and head movements are executed smoothly and naturally. Also, we will have to overcome the challenge of maintaining our balance during the performance, as the parade takes place on slopes that are prone to strong winds.” |
 |
Michael Mok, who stars as the priest, remarks, “I am deeply moved by the healing power of nature upon my preparation for the performance. We spent one whole hour to mimic and learn the movements of a bird, not only to enhance the performance but also have ourselves rejuvenated. The event provides the participants an opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and embrace nature in Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, where they can regain energy from the sunlight, flowers, trees and animals, and return to their daily lives refreshed.” |
 |
Lok Sin Ming, who stars as a bird tribe member, remarks, “Comparing with traditional theatre, I found that nature offers a more sensational experience to participants in which they can explore and interact with different natural elements. People living in the city often lack the exposure to natural surroundings. It is my pleasure to guide the participants to enjoy the fresh air and surroundings, reconnect with nature, and boost their mental health.” |
 |
Mo Hin Wai, who stars as the guide, remarks, “With a mission to save the divine bird, participants of this immersive theatre will explore different sets and complete different tasks in the natural environment under my direction. Unlike traditional theatres with strict frameworks, the immersive theatre settings feature varying elements, such as the surroundings that change with weather, wind and sunlight. Actors will also improvise based on the participants’ feedback. Each theatre experience is therefore unique.” |

About Lost Child Project Hong Kong
Originated as an artistic project curated for young people and children by O Theatre Workshop founded by seasoned theatre artist Olivia Yan, Lost Child Project Hong Kong was officially registered as a charitable organisation in 2021, aiming to promote art to bring impact and transformation to society and young people.
In 2018, moved by the alarming youth and children suicide rates, Olivia Yan invited internationally renowned physical theatre director and educator David Glass to collaboratively launch the “Lost Child Project in HK” initiative. Drawing inspiration from the Lost Child Project, designed by David Glass in 1996, implemented in over 22 countries and utilised in United Nations leadership training, the initiative uses performing arts as a tool to address the mental health of young people and children, and rebuild their spiritual values and happiness.
With support from Tai Kwun, the project was presented in a larger scale in 2020 as “ÉLAN Lost Child Project HK”, bringing together professionals from the arts, social welfare, and education sectors to introduce 15 different art projects held physically and online. As Hong Kong’s first large-scale art event running in both online and offline formats, the innovative project overcame challenges brought by the pandemic, and successfully conveyed the core concept of “We do not solve problems, We play problems”, and was granted the “2021 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards – Award for Arts Promotion”.
In 2022, with continuous support from Tai Kwun, the project hosted the second edition with a theme of “'YES AND!...”, offering 16 different art projects in which participants could explore more possibilities with creativity, and breaking free from negative and pessimistic emotions, to rebuild the confidence and hope of every Lost Child and the young generation.
