Kum Shing Dragon Boat Team exemplifies the values of teamwork and unity

Mr. Rex Wong, JP, CEO of Kum Shing, officiated the eye-dotting ceremony, wishing a great success for the Kum Shing Dragon Boat Team.

Formed 11 years ago, the Kum Shing Dragon Boat Team is a dynamic sports team that brings together staff members to enjoy vibrant spare time together, which in turn enhances inter-departmental and cross-level communication, fostering stronger bonds and sense of belonging.

The Kum Shing Dragon Boat Team is a frequent participant in different races every year. Despite the shortfall in training opportunities due to the pandemic, with their own strong determination, grit and full support from Kum Shing, the team members were able to catch up with their training and entered the competition in their top form.

The leader of the Kum Shing Dragon Boat Team, Wilson, has worked in Kum Shing for over 20 years. He remarks, “As a team sport that emphasizes teamwork and mutual support among team members, dragon boat racing can nurture our team spirit, perseverance and determination against adversity – attributes that are useful in all circumstances. It is not uncommon to encounter at work and it is also through effective collaborations that colleagues from different departments can work as one to overcome difficulties and setbacks.”

Jack, a senior member of the Kum Shing Dragon Boat Team who has also worked in Kum Shing for over 20 years, remarks, “It is always a delight to welcome new members on board. The Kum Shing Dragon Boat Team is a big family of staff members from different departments, of different ages and genders. While senior members like myself are happy to share our experiences and insights with younger teammates, the strong and young enrich the team with fresh energy and new angles. This also resembles the core value of Kum Shing – embrace the legacy for a brighter future.”

Chloe, a young member who has joined the Kum Shing Dragon Boat Team for one year, remarks, “I feel blessed to be able to work in the friendly and supportive environment of Kum Shing. Invited by a colleague, I joined the Kum Shing Dragon Boat Team, happy to be discovering new horizons. While traditional beliefs may lead people to consider the construction industry and dragon boat racing more suitable for men, Kum Shing has offered a new perspective: women play an indispensable role in both. I am grateful to my teammates who are always so encouraging and supportive. I will definitely continue to join the dragon boat race next year.”
