Aiming to raise funds for Caritas–Hong Kong’s social services and to enhance public awareness of its mission, values, and meaningful work, the “Run with Love – Friends of Caritas Charity Run 2026” was successfully held on 1 February 2026 at Hong Kong Science Park. The event attracted overwhelming support from more than 2,200 participants, who came together to champion the inspiring theme “Run for Love, Run for Hope.” Organised by Friends of Caritas and co‑organised by the Chong Gene Hang College Athletic Club, the charity run was honoured to have Mr. Paul Chan, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Cardinal Stephen Chow, S.J., Bishop of Hong Kong, Rev. Joseph Yim, Chief Executive of Caritas–Hong Kong, and Ms. Theresa Ng, JP, Chairperson of Friends of Caritas, officiate at the kick‑off ceremony.

The sunny, pleasant weather provided an ideal setting for the event, which commenced with welcoming remarks by Mr. Paul Chan, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, Financial Secretary of the Government of the HKSAR, followed by an address and blessing from Cardinal Stephen Chow, S.J., Bishop of Hong Kong. They were then joined by Rev. Joseph Yim, Chief Executive of Caritas–Hong Kong, and Ms. Theresa Ng, JP, Chairperson of Friends of Caritas, for a group photo, after which further group photos were taken with representatives of the co-organiser, sponsors, and supporting organisations, including Mr. Kwan Kee, MH, Chairman of Hong Kong China Association of Athletics Affiliates Limited; Mr. Wong Sai Yiu, Principal of Chong Gene Hang College; Mr. Daniel Lui, Managing Director of Daniel & Co.; Mr. Andrew Lo, Vice Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Crystal International Group Limited; Dr. Joseph Lee, GBS, OStJ, JP, Chairman of Wofoo Foundation Limited; Mr. Jaye Chiu, President of The Rotary Club of The Peak; Dr. Frank Law, Assistant Commissioner of Police, representing the Hong Kong Police Volunteer Services Corps; Mr. Stephen Law, JP, President of The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants; Ms. Queendy Kwan, Founder of AKIV Sportswear; Mr. Martin Li, Executive Director of Banitore; Mr. Terence Leung, CEO of Dah Sing Insurance; Ms. Joanne Hung, Director of i-Smile International Limited; Mr. Godwin So, Executive Chairman of Trappist Dairy Limited; Dr. Helen Chan, CEO of Vita Green Health Products Co Ltd.; Mrs. Agnes Mak, MH, JP, Executive Director of Fotocine Holding Co Ltd.; Rev. Peter Lo, Deputy Chief Executive of Caritas–Hong Kong; and Rev. Dominique Mukonda Kananga, Deputy Chief Executive of Caritas–Hong Kong.

The guests then proceeded to the starting point, where they joined participants of the 10km run for a vibrant group photo. Immediately afterwards, Mr. Paul Chan, Cardinal Stephen Chow, Rev. Joseph Yim, and Ms. Theresa Ng jointly sounded the starting horn, officially launching the first run of “Run with Love – Friends of Caritas Charity Run 2026.”

Featuring individual and team races over distances of 10km, 5km, 3km and 1km – with the 10km and 5km races as sanctioned races by the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates – the charity run attracted enthusiastic participation from seasoned athletes, families and friends, as well as schools and corporations that formed teams for this meaningful occasion. Starting at Hong Kong Science Park, participants followed the scenic Pak Shek Kok Promenade, completing the course while taking in the panoramic views of Tolo Harbour. In addition to trophies and medals, top performers in the 10km and 5km races were further rewarded with special prizes, including awards sponsored by Garmin for the champions of the 10km individual categories and coupons from AKIV Sportswear for the top-three finishers in both the 10km and 5km races.

Mr. Paul Chan, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, Financial Secretary of the Government of the HKSAR, remarked, “Running is a popular activity among Hong Kong people. I also enjoy running a lot and have gained some insights over the years. First, running is much like life itself: it requires self-awareness and a steady rhythm. Although our condition may fluctuate, once our goals are clear and our direction is certain, we can regulate our pace and breathing, allowing us to reach our destination ultimately. Second, even when we feel tired or stumble along the way, we must persevere with confidence and determination to achieve our objectives. Third, and most importantly, running is about accomplishing together with love. When we run in teams with friends, some may be faster, some slower, some in better condition, and some may even get injured. In these moments, we must support and embrace one another with love, just as we do in society.”

Cardinal Stephen Chow, S.J., Bishop of Hong Kong, remarked, “As the social service agency of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, Caritas has been dedicated to caring for the weak, the poor and the marginalised in society since its establishment in 1953, embodying the spirit of ‘Love in the Service of Hope’ that manifests the love of God and fosters unity in society. In addition to government funding, contributions from various sectors of society are also crucial for Caritas to sustain its services. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the organiser, Friends of Caritas, to all individuals and teams participating today, as well as to those who made donations online. Through today’s charity run, we hope to pass on the spirit of generosity and compassion to the next generations, continuing to spread the love of Christ.”

Ms. Theresa Ng, JP, Chairperson of Friends of Caritas, remarked, “It is a great pleasure to have received overwhelming support from the Hong Kong public for our inaugural fundraising run. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the co-organiser, sponsors, and supporting organisations, whose dedication and contributions ensured the event’s resounding success. Moving forward, Friends of Caritas will continue to organise fundraising and charitable activities to bolster Caritas’ social welfare services and charitable work, while promoting the spirit of ‘Love in the Service of Hope’ across the community.”
