Hong Kong Red Cross “Pass-it-On 2011” Award Presentation Ceremony
Record Sales of “Red CrossBear Towel” & “Red CrossBear Warmer”
raised HK$3 million for Humanitarian Work
Dr Ko Wing-man and Composer-Singer Louis Cheung cheered for Volunteers

(Hong Kong, 24 February 2012) “Pass-it-On 2011”, the annual fundraising campaign of the Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC), concluded with success in raising over HK$3 million.  Launched in November 2011, the campaign attracted 914 volunteers, who braved the unsteady weather during Christmas and New Year time, to help in the outreach charity sales counters all over the territory, recording 3,029 service hours.  The campaign was completed in January 2012.

The charity sales icons this year, Red CrossBear Towel (a towel set) and Red CrossBear Warmer (a warmer) were enthusiastic received by the public, resulting in the record sales of total 15,888 pieces, constituting the highest sales quantity over the past years. The Gifted Red CrossBear Towel also hit a record high this year. Donors have ordered 3,183 sets of towel and re-gifted to the underprivileged children locally and internationally via HKRC network as a gift of love and care.

To honor our donors, outstanding volunteers, participating schools and corporations, the HKRC held the Award Presentation Ceremony yesterday. Mr Louis Cheung, Hong Kong’s famous Composer and Singer, and Dr Ko Wing-man, Director of the HKRC, together with the sponsors, officiated the ceremony to present awards. (Please refer to Appendix for Award Winner List).

Mr Louis Cheung, who joined the campaign for the first time, enjoyed tremendously in playing the Guess Our Record High game with some audience on stage.  Being a father of a young kid, Mr Cheung embraced the participants with great warmth in announcing the amount of sales of this year’s charity icons.

“I am honoured to be here today to salute our outstanding volunteers. They did a great job, dedicating their efforts and valuable time for the outreach sales. Their devotion certainly paid dividends as proven by the huge sales volume, as well as the numerous people in need to be benefited. I would try my best to take up more volunteering services in future so as to serve those in need in our community,” said Mr Cheung.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Ko Wing-man said: “The concept of ‘spreading warmth’ is embedded in the Red CrossBear Towel and Red CrossBear Warmer. Through this campaign, we hope to plant the spirit of ‘share and care’ in the hearts of all participants. Of course, we also need their continuous support in sustaining our humanitarian work to cater for the needs of the vulnerable.”

On behalf of the HKRC, Dr Ko extended heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors and supporting partners (in no particular order), including QP Group and Samsung Electronics H.K. Co. Ltd as our Diamond Sponsors; CSL Biotherapies Asia Pacific Limited and DKSH Hong Kong Limited as our Gold Sponsors; our Supporting Partners including PARKnSHOP, INTERNATIONAL, TASTE, FUSION, GREAT, Watson’s Wine, FORTRESS, Watsons Your Personal Store, Neway, Wise–Kids, Power Logistics Limited, ESDlife, Gold Typhoon, Metro Broadcast and Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd.

About Pass-it-On Campaign
Aiming to raise funds in support of the humanitarian work of the Hong Kong Red Cross and to promote the “Share and Care” spirit amongst people, the Hong Kong Red Cross has organized the Pass-it-On Campaign since 2003. The campaign has become one of the key fundraising events of the Hong Kong Red Cross. It encourages people to care not only their immediate families and friends, but also for those close and afar who are less fortunate and in need. It emphasizes the power of joining hands, that when we all put ourselves together, an enormous loving power can be accumulated to help those who are in need. It is hence a fundraising campaign, relying on this “pass-it-on effect” amongst people to spread the “share and care” spirit.
