Press Invitation                                                                    16th February, 2016

EDiversity seminar: “Examinations and Assessments: Uses and Misuses in 21st Century Education”

Education around the world is conducted with the help of exams and assessments. Many of us wonder: why in Finland, their way of education and assessing students has not led to drilling and pressure for children? Why in the US, parents, schools and even administrators are rethinking the value and form of standardised tests for young students? How are public standardised assessments being used in HK and other parts of the world? What are their uses and misuses?

As we are talking more about the difficult to measure soft skills and attributes desirable for the 21st century, how should we balance the pursuit of big data, design exam and assessment, and use its data to ensure that individual development of students is safeguarded?

Comparing US, Finland & HK perspectives
After months of heated TSA debate, it is opportune to have important academics from the US and Finland visiting HK and join this seminar to give us fresh perspectives. Members of the media are cordially invited to attend the seminar with details as follows:

About EDiversity
EDiversity is a charity organisation founded by a group of parents in 2014. It aims to gather the collective effort to encourage parents, educators as well as the public to reexamine the current education system, to allow deviant education modes that suit children’s need, and to achieve the ideal of educational diversity. Members of EDiversity come from a variety of backgrounds, including education, information technology, media, business and legal services. They are concerned that local education has taken a wrong direction by over-emphasising examination results and intellectual performance but neglecting the physical and mental developments of individual students. Via conferences and sharing sections, the organisation hopes to promote education concepts that are widely accepted worldwide but misunderstood in Hong Kong; by understanding the current and future needs of children and youngsters, it also strives to offer wiser and more flexible choices in education.
