Parenting for a Peaceful World – Together We Build a Connected Childhood calls for a collective reflection on parenting for a better world

“Parenting for a Peaceful World – Together We Build a Connected Childhood” (PFPW) is a parenting programme like no others. It is based on the parenting bestseller: Parenting for a Peaceful World by Australian psychologist Mr. Robin Grille, who persuasively demonstrated how “change childhood and we change the world” with 15 years of research and writing condensed into one single book.

PFPW is a programme promoting a collective shift in parenting culture. It sees parenting as a social responsibility to build a harmonious and sustainable society through nurturing the emotional health of children. The campaign targets to broaden the horizon of Hong Kong parents on parenting through various activities such as public talks, parenting workshops and an interactive app, which would inspire them to reflect on their parenting belief, and bring them closer to their children’s emotional needs.

Supported by Core Partner & Funder, The D. H. Chen Foundation, and organised by parents-initiated charity EDiversity, the programme has invited Dr. Bianca Ho, a registered counselling psychologist of Hong Kong Psychological Society, as the consultant. Combining the central ideas from Parenting for a Peaceful World and the clinical experience of Dr. Bianca Ho on parenting counselling, PFPW is a rare programme in Hong Kong that aims at facilitating parents’ continuous self-reflection on parents’ identity, core values, and social responsibilities of parenting.

It is PFPW’s belief that one small step in parenting is one big step for building a connected childhood and a more harmonious community for our children. Through various activities, the programme hopes to raise parents’ awareness of how their own upbringing and childhood experience would affect their parenting beliefs and hence rewriting the childhood of their minor. Reflecting on their own experience, parents will also be able to better attune to their children’s developmental needs and strengthen the attachment with their own children, parents, caregivers, family, neighbours, the community, the society, and the world, thus building a more pleasant living environment and harmonious community for our future generations.

PFPW is convinced that children will learn to form a stronger relationship with other stakeholders if they can establish a unique connection with their parents, which in turn will nurture them to be an indispensable member for building a harmonious world. Officially launched in July 2018, with tons of activities, including seminars, professional training sessions and workshops, to follow, parents, mental health practitioners, social workers, educators, and those who care about our children’s future are cordially invited to take part in this meaningful movement and join hands to build a better, more ideal and more flourishing prospects for our future generations.

The first major event of the programme will be held on 6th January 2019 from 3pm to 5pm at Christian Family Service Centre, 3 Tsui Ping Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon. In this public talk, Project Consultant Dr. Bianca Ho will elaborate on the ten core areas of “Parenting for a Peaceful World – Together We Build a Connected Childhood” and share her experience. The public is cordially invited to participate in the talk.

About Parenting for a Peaceful World
The book explains the importance of children’s emotional health and the relationship between parenting and social maladies and major world events from psychological, anthropological, psychohistorical, neuroscience, and biochemistry perspectives. Aspired to make this parenting classic available to Chinese readers, EDiversity crowdfunded and spent two years translating it into Chinese. Local artist Carrie Chau kindly volunteered to paint for the book cover. The Chinese version was published in December 2017 in Hong Kong. Over 2,000 books have been sold to date.
