Press Release (For immediate release) 20th July 2023 Kum Shing Group launches the ZETTA fast charging and group charging services, a groundbreaking EV infrastructure initiative in the local EV charging market, and signs cooperation agreements with EV partners, pushing forward the goal of achieving carbon neutrality and a sustainable future for Hong Kong Online Version: https://public.seedland.hk/press/Kum_Shing/2307-ZETTA/
As the world enters the new era of zero-emission transportation, the HKSAR Government has been taking proactive actions in promoting the popularisation of electric vehicles (EVs) with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality before 2050, which requires comprehensive hardware and software support including the availability of sufficient and efficient EV charging facilities in Hong Kong. Kum Shing Group (“Kum Shing”), the Hong Kong-based energy infrastructure specialist with 60 years of proven history and expertise, bearing the same vision of building Hong Kong as a sustainable and smart city, proudly launches ZETTA, a new EV infrastructure initiative offering DC group charging* and fast charging services – a breakthrough in the EV charging market in Hong Kong. An inauguration ceremony was held on 19th July 2023 at the newly opened Kum Shing EV Control Centre** in Newport Centre, To Kwa Wan, featuring Mr. Rex Wong, JP, CEO of Kum Shing, guest of honour Dr. Kenneth Leung, Principal Assistant Secretary for Environment and Ecology (Air Policy) of the HKSAR Environment and Ecology Bureau, guest of honour Mr. Ricky Ho, Assistant Commissioner/Technical Services of the Transport Department, and Mr. Hugh Chow, Special Advisor to CEO of Kum Shing as officiating guests. Kum Shing also signed cooperation agreements with several strategic partners, heralding a new chapter in promoting the popularisation of EVs with joint forces. The current insufficiency in fast charging infrastructure – only 17.6% of the total charging facilities in Hong Kong offer fast charging, and only 2.7% are DC fast chargers – not only affects the daily operation of commercial EV fleets, but also poses a setback to the progress of low-carbon transformation in the transport sector. Drawing on its profound experience and expertise in transportation infrastructure and Power 2.0 business, Kum Shing launches the innovative ZETTA solution that utilises DC chargers to provide one of the fastest group charging services in Hong Kong, featuring a high charging efficiency of up to 480 KW for a maximum of 12 EVs simultaneously, while the satellite charging units only occupying about 10% of the space of traditional fast charging stations, which can be installed in carparks of different sizes to enhance the flexibility in usage. On top of establishing charging stations in different districts throughout Hong Kong, ZETTA also provides one-stop services that cover recommendations and solutions for installation of EV charging facilities, as well as commercial fleet management to address clients’ needs. ZETTA is now available at the Kum Shing EV Control Centre, with more fast chargers planned to be installed in Tsuen Wan, Kwai Chung and Sai Wan later this year. The service scope is expected to expand to different locations in Hong Kong over the next few years, establishing an extensively distributed charging network throughout the city. Mr. Rex Wong, JP, CEO of Kum Shing, remarks, “It is our honour to have all of you with us today to witness the launch of ZETTA, a remarkable milestone of Kum Shing as we celebrate our 60th anniversary. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our strategic partners for rendering your support by signing cooperation agreements with us today. Combining our in-depth understanding in transport infrastructure, advanced technologies and innovative spirit, the ZETTA solution exemplifies our vision and determination in creating a brighter future, as well as our aspirations in fulfilling our ESG and SDG commitments. We look forward to working hand in hand with the HKSAR Government, partners from the transport sector, EV brands, and carparks in pushing forward the goal of attaining net-zero emissions. Dr. Kenneth Leung, Principal Assistant Secretary for Environment and Ecology (Air Policy) of the Environment and Ecology Bureau, remarks, “It is a pleasure to witness an enterprise realising its vision in establishing commercial EV charging services, of which I hope the services can be developed in accordance with the four principles, namely scientific-based distribution, advanced technology, incorporation of innovations and safety, of the guiding opinions on building high-quality charging infrastructure issued by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China last month. Since the HKSAR Government announced the ‘Hong Kong Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles’ in 2021, the sales volume of private EVs has almost doubled every year. In 2023, over 11,000 private EVs have been sold, accounting for 62% of the total sales of first-hand private cars. To promote the popularisation of commercial EVs, the Chief Executive’s 2022 Policy Address announced the goal of introducing about 700 electric buses and 3,000 electric taxis by the end of 2027, demonstrating an increasing demand for fast charging facilities (charging efficiency exceeding 100 KW). It is my honour to be invited to the launch of ZETTA, Kum Shing’s new initiative to support the development of EV charging network, laying a solid foundation for promoting the electrification of commercial vehicles.” Mr. Ricky Ho, Assistant Commissioner/Technical Services of the Transport Department, remarks, “As we enter a new era of greener transportation, we share the same vision with stakeholders of the industry in expediting green transformation in the transport sector. Policies and proactive measures have been rolled out to support the establishment of sufficient and extensively distributed fast charging facilities throughout Hong Kong, which are essential to meet the long operation hours and the widespread operation network of commercial EV fleets. The launch of ZETTA epitomises Kum Shing’s commitment in enhancing the EV charging network in Hong Kong and promoting the popularisation of commercial EVs through collaborations with EV partners.”
Mr. Rex Wong, JP, Dr. Kenneth Leung and Mr. Ricky Ho were invited to witness the signing of cooperation agreements between Kum Shing and strategic partners. Representatives of EV charger supplier ShenZhen CEGN Co.,Ltd. (CEGN), EV battery supplier Xiamen Ampace Technology Limited under Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), electric vehicle brand Ev Dynamics, a representative of the bus service sector Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings Limited, and a representative of the taxi sector Man Fung Auto Limited, were called upon to sign cooperation agreements with Kum Shing’s representative Mr. Hugh Chow, reaffirming the joint commitment of Kum Shing and different stakeholders in building Hong Kong as a smart and sustainable city.
